The BSHP has an annual conference, usually in the spring, at which the Annual General Meeting is held. We also organize or sponsor other conferences and events, often in collaboration with another society or a university department (see Funding for details of support available).
BSHP membership is a condition of participation to the annual conference. Every other year the annual conference will explore a specific theme in the history of philosophy. Such bi-annual themed conferences may be preceded by a BSHP master class or research school associated with the event.
- The registrations fee for student participants in BSHP annual conferences is universally waived.
- The BSHP will award 10 bursaries of £100 to BSHP annual conference speakers who are students and/or unwaged members.
- As for all BSHP supported events, there is a standard amount of £500 available for child care if necessary. The funding will be provided upon request by the conference organizer, who will be responsible for the type of child-care offered, and on condition of receipts.
In this section there is information about both past conferences and forthcoming conferences.
If you have any questions or ideas for possible conferences, please contact Prof. Maria Rosa Antognazza (firstname.lastname@example.org).
As part of our commitment to equality and diversity, the BSHP is a member of the BPA/SWIP Good Practice Scheme. The Scheme aims to assist UK philosophy departments, learned societies and journals in ensuring that they have policies and procedures in place that encourage the representation of women in philosophy.
